History
The Christ Our Shepherd Center is situated amidst expansive wooded grounds purchased by the Diocese of Greensburg in 1961.
Upon completion of renovation and additions, the former country estate was dedicated on May 4, 1964, as St. Joseph Hall, a minor seminary. It was rededicated as an apostolic center in June 1971 and named the St. Joseph Center. The center has served thousands of groups and individuals since that time.
Today the center offers lodging, meeting rooms named for the four counties of the diocese (Armstrong, Fayette, Indiana and Westmoreland), full-service dining rooms, and a beautiful chapel. A gymnasium and outdoor grounds with walking trails and field space complete the setting.
The facilities are primarily interconnected and offer comfort and convenience in all seasons. Ongoing renovations have kept the center up-to-date, including wireless Internet access and air conditioning, and elevators and ramps make nearly all areas fully accessible.
Events range from single-day meetings, social events and banquets, to multiple-day retreats and conferences. Housekeeping and food service are also provided.
The Neumann House, the diocesan home for retired priests, and two leased buildings can also be found on the grounds.
In 2014, Bishop Lawrence E. Brandt established a Diocesan Heritage Center that is hosted at the center.
